The Next Big Thing

I’ve been tagged by Danica Avet in the next big thing and, as promised, I’ve listed my victims at the bottom of this post.
There are several questions I must answer before I get to the victims *rubs hands gleefully* so here goes.

1. What is your working title of your book?
Tequila Mockingbird

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?
My sons both had to read To Kill a Mockingbird in high school and both of them slurred the name every time they said it and what I heard was Tequila Mockingbird. I’ve wanted to write a story with that title ever since and the story finally came to me.

3. What genre does your book fall under?
Romantic suspense

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Jordi Molla for the hero, Kes Falco. (see this picture and imagine him with a pony tail- scroll down)

Sophia Bush for the heroine, Rachel Newsome. See here.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Kes Falco, pariah in his own town after taking the blame for his called-off wedding, disappears for two years but resurfaces when danger hits close to home.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I plan to send it to one of my current publishers

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It was my NaNoWriMo book for this year so 23 days.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Not that I’d ever compare myself to Dianna Love and Sherrilyn Kenyon but if you’ve read their BAD agency books, this novel is nothing like those but I hope it has some of the flavor of the adventure and danger that those stories have.

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
See #2 above- my sons.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
It starts off in Los Angeles and moves to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when a local lawyer is kidnapped in an effort by drug dealers to find out the real identity of an undercover agent named Mockingbird. I think it has a lot of elements that might appeal. A hot DEA agent, a lot of danger and some humor.

Here are my victims and I hope they’ll play along. Liv Rancourt, Mackenzie Crowne, Sandy Tilley, Kate Patrick, Joan Chandler.

  1. Jordi Molla is hot. Even hotter with long hair, so a great pick for your hero in my estimation. :) Oh, and thanks! (for not picking me.) :)

    • I’ve always loved Jordi- even back when he did BLOW with Johnny Depp. He’s usually a bad boy but he’s very hot!! and I promised you I wouldn’t pick you so I didn’t!

      • And I VERY much appreciate it. :)

      • I knew that! LOL!

  2. Love the title, Jillian, and your reason for choosing it. I’m also impressed that you wrote the first dratt in 23 days – congrats!

    • Thanks Paula. Yeah, it’s a title I’ve been kicking around for quite a while. I was thrilled to finally get the story to go with it. It was one of those that once it came, it was a flood of words.

  3. Thanks for the tag, Jillian. LOVE the title, and congrats again on winning NaNo! The book sounds like a whole lot of fun…

    • Thanks for loving the title. I think it’s pretty cool myself. Lol. Thanks for the good NaNo wishes. Can’t wait to see what you post!

  4. Book sounds good. Definitely has me curious. I’m glad tomorrow kicks off the weekend, as it will take me that long to figure this game out! :) I am not a techy, so it will be challenging, but I want to play, so I’ll figure it out. (How’s that for a horrendous sentence?!!)

    • Thanks kate. I appreciate you playing along. It’s easy. Cut and paste the questions at the end of my post to your blog (or a word doc and then paste to blog) and answer them – you can do it!
