Last year, at an Anthropologie store, I bought a book entitled Fortune-Telling Book of Names. The reason I got it was that I’m always looking for names and their meanings for my stories. This book had a different twist on names- like a fortune cookie for names. I set this book aside and came across it the other day as I was purging some stuff.
If you read this blog, you know that the heroine in my current WIP was being really a pain about the original name I gave her. After a brain storming session, I changed her name to Joanna and the story started to flow. So, when I found this book, I looked up Joanna. Imagine my surprise when I read the entry: Joanna: (English) a brief period of chaos and uncertainty will be followed by a long period of peace.
Well, as they say here in the South, shut my mouth! This is why she needed to be named Joanna. Without giving away a plot point, as they say in Britain (and this heroine is British), this is spot on. Spot on to my plot. How cool is that? (in the legal world, we would say this case is on all fours with the case at hand-LOL).
Now as to Sebastian, his is not as spot on but it works with the story as well: Sebastian: (Latin) Stay the course. You are on the right track; success is at hand.
This is awesome and I love it. Maybe next time I start a WIP, I’ll remember I have this book and look at it first- save myself some fights with uncooperative heroines.
My author page is up at SirenBookStrand – preorder and excerpt available. http://www.bookstrand.com/solo-honeymoon click on my name for bio and interview.

That’s…downright freaky! LOL I love it though. Maybe I should look into investing in a name book, although I like just popping on behindthename.com to find something (cause I’m lazy) 😉

I usually do that, too Danica but this little book is different than those sites as it has a fortune- LOL!

Oh, I’m having such a tough time naming my hero in my current WIP, maybe I should look him up. 🙂 Good luck with the book! I’ll be checking into it.

Thanks Ciara! I hope that it sells at least to more than my family! LOL! Good luck on your quest for a name for your character- give me his name and I’ll look it up for you.
