Reading a Book that I Don’t Like the Protagonist

It’s really weird, I like the story line and the fact that the action takes place in Paris during the German occupation in World War II. I find that the reading is going slowly though since I don’t like the heroine. I’m not invested in her fate and therefore, even though the story itself is interesting, I keep getting side tracked with my dislike of this woman. I mean, I really don’t like her. At all.

Will I ever finish the story? That’s up in the air since I’ve read two more books since I started this one. Each of them was over 340 pages and I’m still on page 139 of this one. Wagers on the odds of me finishing this one, anyone?

I’ll go out on a limb here and admit it. If I’m not emotionally invested in the book, I now set it aside. I have a TBR pile that is enormous, so when I read from this pile for pleasure, I no longer have time to read something I’m not really interested in. I NEVER used to be that way. I HAD to finish every book I read. But there’s not enough time these days, so when I sit down with one, I need to be hooked to read it through to the end.
I’ll wager…well, maybe instead of a wager, I’ll just guess Or suggest. Put the book down.

I might take your advice. Right now, it’s in the car and I read it when I have lunch alone and I do like the way the writer is telling about the occupation of France and the resistance. So, it has some good points. That’s why I’m torn.
