I bet you thought I was going to do a Memorial Day fact but I am all about the unexpected. LOL
The birthstone for May is the emerald which is traditionally thought of as the sacred stone of Venus. As we all know, Venus was the goddess of love so as a romance writer, I wanted to share a bit of lore about the stone.
For luck in love, give your lover an emerald to stay faithful.
Green is a calming color and encourages reflection, peace and balance.
In the Christian faith, it is the symbol for faith and hope.
Some cultures believe it can heal diseases of the eye and would soak the stone overnight in water and then the next day, pour the water over the person’s eyes. Don’t you wish that were true? No more glasses?
An emerald was supposedly given to King Solomon to give him power over all creation. It was also used in the breastplate of the high priests in the Bible.

My daughter is a Taurus, so I like this gem. And green is one of my favorite colors. But I didn’t know that the emerald was a sign of love and faith. So yep, learned something new again. 🙂 Still loving the Friday facts.
