I listen to a. lot of 1960s and 1970s music on Sirius Radio. I also tend to get bogged down in lyrics on occasion. This morning, at 5 am or so, I had two songs on my mind that always make me question the judgment of the women in the songs.
Lesley Gore’s “It’s my party” song” and “Judy’s turn to cry” song were the obsession of the day. Round and round in my head wen these questions until I had to get up and write this down to get it out of my head. LOL
First, in the party song, the singer is upset because her boyfriend Johnny is missing and left the party holding Judy’s hand. Then he comes back in with Judy and Judy is wearing his ring. I want to know how Judy has his ring. If Johnny was the boyfriend of the singer, why isn’t the singer in possession of the ring? Did she give it back before he left the party for a walk or whatever with Judy? How did he get it back to give to Judy in the first place? Tis a mystery.
Second, in the Judy’s turn to cry song, the singer sees them kissing at a party so she kissed some other guy. The former boyfriend, Johnny, who clearly wanted his cake and to eat it too, ends up hitting the poor guy the singer kissed. Poor guy was probably minding his own business and suddenly he’s kissed and then punched. What a night for him, right?
My real question on that second song is why either the singer or Judy want this absolute jerk of a guy named Johnny to be her boyfriend. Why? Why? Why?
Does he have magic lips or something? He’s clearly not a good person. Both these ladies need to move on and find someone who deserves them, right?
Anyway, that was today’s song induced madness in my life.
