Tuesday Tales- June 3, 2014- Bottom

The word of the week for Tuesday Tales is bottom.

This is from a YA I wrote a while back. I have had a very tough May and have really written zero new words in a whole month. I was hoping to get some new words this past weekend but it didn’t happen. Be sure to check out the other entries here.

It seemed like no time before my alarm went off. I groaned at the sound. I was so not ready to get up and go to school. I needed about three days to rest and recover from the last two days. I knew my mom was not going to let me stay here. She was a stickler for attendance and I had missed yesterday after all. Never mind that I was saving my dad’s life. She’d insist I take my carcass to school even if my bottom was dragging the pavement. Which it was.

I took another shower since my hair was a rat’s nest from going to bed with it wet and doing all the tossing and turning that I always did. Mom always swore that I stood on my head and spun around on the blankets. Some days I agreed with her. The mess was really bad today. Many of my friends say they envy my curls. I bet they’d hate them if they had to deal with them every day.

Once out of the shower with my hair pulled back into a ponytail, I threw on some clean jeans and a long sleeve red sweatshirt. It was plain since I was not a fan of broadcasting my likes or my interests on my breasts. As it was, we had way too many people on this earth knowing what we like by those algorithms on the Internet that followed us around. I wanted to keep some things to myself.

My friends thought I was a lunatic and slightly paranoid about it. They continually gifted me with t-shirts and sweats with things they know I like printed on the front. I still never wear them. They’d probably all be upset if they knew that I immediately donated them to charity. I wanted someone to enjoy the shirts even if I didn’t. I didn’t see any hypocrisy in that either since not everyone was as nuts as me when it came to things like that. Some folks don’t care who knows their business.

I grabbed a bagel and an apple and left the house. Rachel and Alice stood on my porch. Rachel’s hand was poised to knock. She giggled when I opened it before she could make contact with the wood.

Friday Facts- May 30, 2014- Plato

This may or may not be an actual fact but my son told me this the other day and he’s working on a philosophy minor in college  so I kind of trust him- kind of.

When he was born, Plato was named after his grandfather, Aristocles.

The legend is, he became a wrestler and his coach named him Platon which means broad. His shoulders and body were large and thus the nickname. It stuck and became shortened to Plato.

There is another school of thought that the name came from the fact that he had a breadth of knowledge and eloquence or because of his very wide forehead.

I find this all very intriguing and kind of fun.

One of my favorite paintings in the Vatican is called The School of Athens and it has a lot of philosophers depicted in it as well as Plato. See which one you think is him based on either his big forehead or wide shoulders. LOL –

If you give up, let me know and I’ll point him out to you.

Tuesday Tales- May 27, 2014- Cover Reveal

This week’s word was author and all the other folks are behaving and using the word prompt  but me. The devil and nonconformist that I am, I am using this day as a cover reveal for one of the stories that was a Tuesday Tale a few months ago (January). This is my 1950s set story with the test pilot and the gal who worked on Eisenhower’s re-election campaign. This is a sweet romance with Sweet Cravings Publishing and should be out in June of this year. Check out the other stories hereBadge for TT - very small.

I haven’t started a new WIP as I am working on polishing one to submit but I hope to have something to share next week with the word prompts. This author needs a refill at the well of creativity and is hoping its on the way.

It’s Release Day for my Pal, Lace Daltyn

She has no idea I am posting this but she can’t stop me either.  Today  is release day for my friend, Lace Daltyn. This is the first book in her five book series – The Secret Series– (I am so proud of her for getting these five stories written and ready to share with the world – five is A LOT!)

This  book is called Masquerade and here is the link to read the excerpt and purchase.

Secrets, 1

The world is full of secrets…

Drea Fortier, a reclusive philanthropist whose painful past influences her belief that there can be no happily ever after for her, reaches out to help others in the hope she can transform their pain and give them hope for the future. Drea’s own story, as well as that of her assistant, Michael Smith, is slowly revealed throughout the Secrets series.

Book One: Masquerade

Frigid bitch. The words seep into Beth Ritmour’s soul, no matter how hard she tries to deny them. A year after her divorce, they still haunt her. So when a mysterious benefactor offers a solution to her problem, Beth takes a vacation from her job as a dental hygienist and follows a cryptic note to Chicago, where she’s soon ensconced as a waitress at Club Masquerade. Although how she’s going to prove she’s not frigid is hard to figure out when the boss makes it very clear that sex, or any precursors to sex, with patrons or employees is strictly taboo. It’s not an easy rule to follow, especially when one deliciously hot bartender keeps very, very close tabs on her.

Friday Facts- May 23, 2014- Emerald

I bet you thought I was going to do a Memorial Day fact but I am all about the unexpected. LOL

The birthstone for May is the emerald which is traditionally thought of as the sacred stone of Venus. As we all know, Venus was the goddess of love so as a romance writer, I wanted to share a bit of lore about the stone.

For luck in love, give your lover an emerald to stay faithful.

Green is a calming color and encourages reflection, peace and balance.

In the Christian faith, it is the symbol for faith and hope.

Some cultures believe it can heal diseases of the eye and would soak the stone overnight in water and then the next day, pour the water over the person’s eyes.  Don’t you wish that were true? No more glasses?

An emerald was supposedly given to King Solomon to give him power over all creation. It was also used in the breastplate of the high priests in the Bible.
