Since I got so much flak for last Friday’s fact, thought I’d go a little easier this week. This is a zebra, also called Equus Quagga- that is the name of the species of this animal. The genus is equus. Equus is Latin for horse.
This one in particular is of one of the non-extinct types. There are several different species of zebras and some are extinct. They have been over-hunted for their pelts and for food in many parts of Africa. They can still be found in plentiful numbers on preserves. It’s a shame, really, that they aren’t more populous in the wild.
I have an affinity for zebras. They are my favorite of the animal kingdom. There is a beauty and serenity about them that appeal to me. Even when they are in flight, they are graceful and poetic (at least they are in my mind).
And of course, there is always the play and the movie called Equus– which I’ve seen both, but that’s another story for another day.

Love the zebra. Couldn’t imagine killing an animal like that for a pelt. Other pic is a tad strange. What and who is it? RitaVF

I actually know someone that killed a zebra and brought home the pelt- made a rug- changed my opinion of him. The other pic is from the Broadway show Equus. Daniel Radcliffe on a “horse”- a stylized Broadway horse.

You know…I think I knew a fun fact about zebras at one time…I’m sure I still do, but I can’t access that part of my brain this early. Great Friday Fact, lady! Hope you have a spectacular weekend!
