NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo starts on November 1st which is in just a few days.  Anyone on board with me? My user name there is sfcatty- become my buddy and I’ll cheer you on!  Last year was my first time to do it and I got done in 21 days. We were going out of town for Thanksgiving and I knew I’d get nothing done on the trip and as anal as I am, I had to “win” the dang thing.

I know I can do this again. It’s not unusual for me to write 10,000 words in a day- especially when I have what I call the “fire in the veins” going.  Sometimes, the story  is so strong that my arms feel like they are on fire with the words flowing out of my fingertips. It is an utterly amazing feeling.

The best part of NaNoWriMo 2009?  I sold my story called Redemption for the Devil that I wrote that month. Now, don’t be fooled, it needed a lot of work and I expanded it to 75,000 words before it sold, but like they say on the NaNo site, it’s easier to edit a first draft than a blank page.

This year, I’m writing a story called Obsession (well, that’s the name for now, anyway) and I hope to be as successful with it as with Redemption for the Devil which comes out from Desert Breeze Publishing in July 2011.  The writers at Desert Breeze Publishing are awesome and friendly and the editor is really a great person to work with.  I’m happy to be on board there.

Come write a book with me in 30 days- it’ll be fun!

Did it last year. Don’t know about trying this year because of family health problems. SHould I commit knowing there’s a good chance I won’t finish or should I just sit it out. Thinking about it. Congrats on your sale. RitaVF

I would say go for it- there’s no penalty if you don’t finish but you could get a good start on a story, Rita.  Good luck with all the family stuff.

I did it last year and finished…but I haven’t made up my mind if I’m doing it this year or not. If I do join up, it’ll probably be last minute, lol. Nothing like the added pressure of starting late!

No pressure, Danica- You are FAST and can catch up easily.

wow, 10,000 words a day? I’m so jealous! On a great day I write 5000. I also participated in NaNoWriMo last year. The book landed an agent and it is out on sub now.

Ciara- I wish I could be so lucky as to get an agent. So far, haven’t been able to. As to 10,000 words a day- that is not a steady pace- it is just sometimes! Don’t get the wrong idea there. HAHA
