Friday Fact- November 5, 2010- Envelope

Today’s Friday fact is very short. I’ve been down with a migraine and have zero energy. Had to break out the  phenergran this time.  That stuff helps stop the vomiting but it kicks my butt and makes my head mush so I still am loopy from it.  Sorry, I’ll do better next week.

I thought this tidbit was interesting – as you know, all things British intrigue me.

The first envelopes with gummed flaps were produced in 1844. In Great Britain, they were not immediately popular because it was thought to be a serious insult to send a person’s saliva to someone else.

I love that.

LOL!!! OMG, I never thought about it, but you’re so right. That is gross! I don’t lick my envelopes. I tape them shut and if I really want them sealed, I’ll use a wet towel…a caution I learned after working for an accountant who had really, really old papers all over the place. I always feared roach eggs and other stuff on the glue.

Sorry about your migraine. I hope you feel better soon.

OMW – Roach eggs? I will NEVER lick an envelope again!! Yuck!

I’m sooo sorry about your migraine. That stinks. I know phenergan well, makes the entire room spin like a tilt-a-whirl. 🙂 Hope you feel better soon.

Danica has got us all grossed out today, Ciara. Thanks for the well wishes. I’m better today but still a bit groggy from the meds.
