Friday Facts- March 9, 2012- Ampelographer

An ampelographer is an expert in the study and classification of cultivated grape varieties. Ampelography is actually the study of the vines themselves. An interesting thing has happened with the advent of DNA testing. DNA testing proved the identities of Zinfandel and Sangiovese as a couple of examples. The tests showed where those grapevines originated. The ampelographers have even been able to tell what causes the various grapes to have certain colors.

Now, none of the above is important to world peace or anything like that, but I still think it’s awesome, don’t you?

One of my publishers has a Friday flirts blog and my characters from The Coroner’s Heart are there today with a little excerpt. Check it out:

  1. I beg to disagree. I think grapes ARE important to world peace. If we all drank just a little more wine….

    I’ll do my part! lol
    Have a great weekend.

    • AMEN! Laurie. I try to do my part, too! LOL! Have a super weekend.

  2. 🙂 Laurie, a good thought. Want to run for president?

  3. That’s cool. I like information that doesn’t really help me with anything. Like learning women who are PMS’ing are more likely to notice a snake faster than women who aren’t because of the chemicals released during pre-menstration that make them more aware of their surroundings to keep them safe in the earliest stages of pregnancy or something like that. (probably TMI, but I thought it was cool). LOL

    • What an awesome fact, Danica. I LOVE IT! Funny.

    • OH NO. Does that mean that I’m more likely to get snake bitten since I don’t PMS anymore? I hate a snake. Where do I find the chemical replacement?

      • Stay out of the weeds. That works, too.

  4. Fascinating…I’ve learned something new See you tomorrow! 🙂

  5. I think your grape guys do help contribute to world peace I know a good glass of wine has probably decreased violence in my home.=)

    • It can decrease violence but for some folks, it increases it. Lol
