Friday Facts- August 3, 2012 – Lone Star

I’m in Texas today for my cousin’s son’s wedding. So, I thought I’d tell you why it’s called the Lone Star State even though I bet you can guess.

Texas was once a republic. It was a country in and of itself. It was named from the Spanish word for friends or allies, Tejas. It was once owned by Mexico and that’s why the Spanish derivative name. Once they won their independence, their flag had one star and they stood alone. That star has survived to this day, thus the name The Lone Star State.

Have a great weekend.

Hey, you’re halfway here. Once you’re done partying at the wedding, come on up to our neighborhood. Hmmm. I might need to look at a map. Not quite sure Texas is a halfway point, but I’ll use any excuse I can. teeheehee

Hehehe. Not sure it’s halfway either but it’s sure closer than Florida. If I drive from my house to where I am, it’s about 10 hours. It’s 21 hours from my house to Denver, so I’m thinking maybe I’m a third of the way. Lol.
