Yes, a HARD “A”! Several funny things have happened concerning flower names. Shortly after I got here I was visiting someone in her garden. We were discussing the flowers and I pointed and mentioned her peonies. She didn’t know what i was talking about. I repeated myself. She still didn’t know. I pointed to the peonies and she finally said, “Oh, the Pee OH nies! I had no idea what you were saying!” All I had done was put the emphasis on the first syllable; no difference in vowel sounds, no added syllables. I have no idea why she didn’t understand me.
Yes, she is, but there are many people who PRETEND not to understand me because they purposely mispronounce places and words. 30 years here now, and I shrug it off.
Nice. Ours are not out quite yet.
Here they call them “A-zaylyuz”
