I’m really excited that someone has finally bought this place and looks to be restoring it. I use it in one of my stories as I love it. I was afraid it was going to be torn down when it sold as there are a bunch of builders here who are buying old houses downtown and building so many cookie cutter houses. I took these pics as I wanted to have the memory of it if it was torn down. But they are renovating! YAY
I am glad that I saw your answer. That is so darling! Thre thing this place has going for it where I am is that they bank on tourism and keep the historic district intact. Many of the houses have been restored or redone; some have been connected to make huge ones. The drawback here is that they have gotten very expensive and in trying to save some houses, the local powers-that-be have made it hard by their ultra-stringent, very tight dos and don’ts.
Our historical district has many rules about how houses can be altered. Sadly, this one is just outside those lines as a lot of them are. There is a historically Black neighborhood near my office that these vultures have been buying up land/old structures and putting in over $200,000.00 townhomes. Changing the character and chasing out the community who have lived here for eons. Makes me sad.
It is sad. Money talks here, though, and there was a mansion that had historically been black-owned. They had made offices and I was only in the front once by mistake, but it was very nice. Unfortunately, The Families (white) who settled and run the town decided that they wanted the land for their private highschool. While people were trying to raise funds, they purposely broke windows and dragged out lawsuits so that it was ruined before anyone could save it, and it is gone. If I was not upset with how thisngs were here before, that would have done it.
wow. That is despicable. I hate that. We have one super rich guy here who is trying to take over the whole town. I keep saying he’s going to turn it into a form of Potterville from It’s a Wonderful Life. and I am not happy about it
Pretty cool. That porch needs some comfy chairs, a table, and some
lemonade and glasses. 🙂
