Mercury in Retrograde

Although I always paid attention to the moon phases because of the craziness that happens during full and new moon, I never paid much attention to the stars and planets until I made friends with Maureen. She is very attuned to all  of this astrology stuff.   I have had a very weird last 5-6 week period.  I remember  the last time Mercury went retrograde which was December, 2009- things seemed awry then.  Maureen told me it was due to Mercury orbiting backwards. I kind of blew her off on that.

Mercury in Retrograde leads to miscommunication, information channels get blocked and it is supposed to be a time of reflection.

Around the beginning of April, Mo told me Mercury was going retro again and she said that if I was determined not to let it affect me, it would not.  I promptly forgot about this advice.  Then, lots of nutty stuff ensued. First was I had to call court security to help me when a person got out of control in the courtroom- I blamed this on full moon. But then, the very next week,  had another incident in the courtroom with an out of control person- the moon was waning gibbous so that wasn’t it.

A week later, more craziness that I attributed to  the new moon.  That was a client out of control.  As the month of April continued and then into May, more mis-cues came about.  I was beginning to blame the high pollen count.  Had two clients go weird on me yesterday before 9 am.

THEN today, I see where Mercury is coming out of retrograde at 6 pm tonight.  So, maybe my friend was right.  We should be in the clear til Aug 20, now.  LOL!   An interesting read on the subject:  http://astrology.about.com/od/mercury/a/MercuryRRealLife.htm

So much of the above article rings true. So, I guess I have to start believing we are all affected by tides, orbits, moon phases, etc.  Kind of scary, isn’t it?  Being a control freak, this freaks me out!   Yeah, I used freak twice in one sentence, but it fits!

Sometimes I feel like Sisyphus

Not that I’ve done the things that he did in order to earn his punishment.   His eternal punishment was to roll a boulder up a hill and  before he could get to the top himself, the boulder would roll back down and he’d have to start back again with  his task.

I  have an area of my life that is precisely like this – I think I’ve got the problem resolved and am moving on and then it rolls back over me.  I hope this time, I have made it go away but I have that feeling that I am operating under a false hope and soon that dang boulder will be back and I’ll have to start pushing it off me again!

Sharing another high school picture

I shared a high school picture of me on my other blog today and thought I’d post one here, too.  The interesting thing in this one is that I am now a lawyer (that’s me in the visor, with my mouth moving, as usual) and the guy beside me, Gus, one of my dearest friends that I have known since we both lived in Virginia when we were kids (our dads worked together and we all moved to Florida at the same time), is now a very big deal medical doctor in Houston, Texas.   He recently won a great award and I’m so proud of  him. He is awesome- his patients adore him as well as the nurses and residents he trains. We sure were silly back then-  These days, we sometimes tend to forget we are supposed to be sophisticated professionals.

As to the other folks in the picture, I do not even recall the name of the girl with the long hair beside me. The other girl is Kelly and I have not seen her since I graduated as she was two years behind me.  The other dude was also a sophomore and I THINK his name was Eric.  Not sure about that one at all.

Fun trip down memory lane today.  Wish I was still this skinny!

Broke my word

I submitted a story. OOPS> so much for the closet!  LOL!  But this is a non -stress one- seems like I stress less over some of my stories.  But you know, that whole experience of taking a small break helped  me put it all in perspective. There will be no obsessive checking of email, etc.    Nope, not this time.  All is cool.  Yep.

New idea

I’m working on a new idea. I usually try to hold off the other voices clamoring for attention until I get the current WIP done. This time, I’m letting them in and am going to be working on two at the same time.  I’ll probably confuse the hell out of myself but so what?  Should be interesting, anyway.  Here’s a hint:

Rain

Looks like another rainy day here on the Gulf Coast.  My dear friend in Memphis is fine- I was worred about her with all the flooding up that way. Called her since she was, for some reason, not on line all day which of course made me think she had drowned or at the least, lost power.  She  and her family slept in the closet for part of Saturday night because of all the tornado sirens going off.

Worried too about National RWA conference at the Gaylord in Nashville since the place has six feet of water in it. They evacuated 1500 people last night.  Wonder where they will move  us? Hopefully still in driving distance.  Of course, they always bill the first night to your credit card when you book your room – so they have my money – let’s hope we still have a conference to attend.

It seems to be getting darker here. Leaving for lunch in a few minutes and I wish I had a pair of these.

Something to think about

I have decided I need to think about whether I have just become too sensitive or if I really have reason to be hurt by certain people.  I have had my feelings hurt this week by two different people (AND I am not having PMS) and I need to think about my reactions to these things.  One of the people I KNOW thinks the whole world revolves around her so I am never shocked (Yes, I am, really) when she is insensitive or when she takes my ideas and spouts them like they are her own.  The other person, I don’t know as well so I’m not sure of where she is coming from. But you can bet your sweet ass if she had had some stories published, she wouldn’t be so quick to say mine don’t count.  She’d be as insulted as I am when she discounts the fact that someone besides family and friends likes my work.  It just hurts when she says mine don’t count because they aren’t romance. How does she know?  For example, has she read Christmas in Outer Space?  My entry is definitely a romance story- now, granted, it was not published by a RWA recognized publisher but it WAS published in a real anthology, with a real editor, that read it and chose it for  her book.

Sensitive, maybe. But by God, I should get credit for my work!

Rant over. Adios.
