Bet you thought I was going to talk about the origins of April Fool’s Day, didn’t you? I’m not in a fun mood, so I’m not going there. I just finished a Heather Graham book and the Hamza hand played a role in it so I thought I’d tell you about it. It is a symbol used in both the Jewish faith and the Arabic faith. It’s a symbol used as a talisman against the evil eye. In the Jewish faith, they call it hamesh and in the Arabic faith, it’s called hamza. I believe it symbolizes the hand of Fatima. In the Christian faith, they call it the hand of Marion.
I wasn’t able to find a picture that wasn’t copyrighted but google it and see what they look like. I think you’ll recognize the symbol right away.

I’ll google indeed. I do love Google. I also love all the different variations I found. Some had eyes in the palm. Some had doves for the pinky and thumb. One even had a Victorian angel on it. BTW I hope some people don’t have Hamasa Hands because they are getting some long distance evil eye from me.

You just tell me which way to aim and I’ll send a gris-gris! Um, not that I’m any good at stuff like that, but *shrug* it sounded good 😉 Interesting fact though. I find it intriguing how three very different religions have similar symbols. Makes me wonder.

Thanks Danica- I appreciate the gris-gris. Have a story to tell you sometime! You know those three religions also believe in the same God as well so I guess it’s only right that they have the same symbols. and have been fighting over the same land for millenia.

It is fascinating how several religions can worship the same God, have similar symbols, and pray, yet think they are so different. Thanks for sharing this, and thanks for celebrating with me today. 🙂
