St. Francis of Assisi

I’m not Catholic. I’ve always been a Methodist but I love the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. It speaks to me. Today is his feast day and I thought I’d share the prayer here. I try to live by it although I fail miserably most of the time.  It’s that whole Channel of Peace thing. I’m a bit high strung for that.  He’s also the patron saint of animals and I’ll share a picture of my kittimal at the end. She also has a problem living by his prayer as she’s a demon-cat.  Don’t let her looks fool you. LOL!  I still love her, demon or no demon.

Make me a channel of Your peace, where there is hatred, let me bring Your love, where there is injury Your pardon, Lord and where there’s doubt, true faith in You. Make me a Channel of Your peace, where there’s despair in life let me bring hope, where there is darkness only light and where there’s sadness, ever joy. Oh Master, Grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love with all my soul. Make me a channel of Your peace, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in giving to all men that we receive and in dying that we are born to eternal life.

  1. On my college campus, there was a St. Francis of Assisi hall. No classes were held there, but it was more of an on-campus chapel than anything. It might seem odd in other parts of the country, but it’s just one of those things we take for granted. Great prayer even though I don’t consider myself a Catholic any longer.

And your demon cat is no worse than mine!

    • I think that’s great that the school had a chapel named after him.

My cat can whip your cat- LOL! Had to get in that playground taunt!

  2. Great looking cat! And thanks for posting the prayer.

    • Thanks for coming by. I appreciate it- She’s an awesome cat in reality. I love the prayer and glad you liked my posting it. I tried to post on your blog but it didn’t take. Love the orange jumpsuit post. I have one of those I bought as a Halloween costume- never thought of using it your way. LOL!

  3. Looks like you cat might be a Mainecoon. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing an inspiring prayer with us.

    • She’s a mutt but she’s brilliant. Lol. I’m glad you liked the prayer.

  4. I’ve got goosebumps. Love this. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I need to memorize it. Oh, and love the kitty. 🙂

    • There is actually a Sinead O’connor song of it. (I think it’s her) and it is beautiful. Thanks re: kitty.

  5. Love the poem and the cat, Jillian. Also loved Assissi. One of the most peaceful places I’ve ever visited. A little town in the mountains that probably hasn’t changed since Francis lived there-other than the magnificent church. Don’t think I want to go back after that devastating earthquake. Thanks for the reminder. RB

    • I’d love to visit there, Rita I bet it was lovely. Thanks re cat. She really is a doll.
