Tuesday Tales- January 26, 2016- Wood

The word of the week is wood. The gals of Tuesday Tales have some wonderful stories going and I’m sure this week will be no different. Click this link to check out the other tales.

I’m still working on my vampire story and am at about 45,000 words now. Finally moving along at a greater pace than I have been. YAY.  Our hero and the woman he’s supposed to be rescuing have been captured and have just realized they are in a cargo hold with a lot of gold bars. And I don’t mean Hershey bars. LOL

“Yes. I can see why they would want to move it. But why bother with us? Why did they chase us and take us into custody? If they needed to get their treasure safe, why spend the time to capture us?”

“I don’t know but I’m afraid we’re going to find out and it might not be pleasant.” Declan couldn’t decide whether to tell her about knowing the man who led them to the truck. He thought he’d keep it to himself for a while. After all, hadn’t she been secretive herself?

“No. I think it won’t be nice.” She let out a bark of laughter. “The only nice thing that’s happened to me lately was meeting you.”

“That’s kind of you to say.”

“You know I don’t mean it in kind way. You know what I mean yet you ignore this obvious tie between us. Why you would be willing to die without kissing me, I don’t know.”

“You forget. I have kissed you.” Declan ducked his head and didn’t make eye contact with her. “Let’s replace the lid. We don’t know when they will stop and check on us.”

Yana placed her hand on one edge of the lid. “You’re not fooling me by changing the subject.” Scraping her fingernail on the wood, she added, “and you know that kiss wasn’t real. It was a show.”

“It was real to me.” He thought back on the day she met him at the station. Yes, that kiss was real. He’d put all his unrequited lust for Liesl behind it. But then he realized. It wasn’t fair to her to say he’d kissed her because she wasn’t the one on his mind when he’d done it.

“Bah.” Yana turned away.

Well, hell, he couldn’t have her mad at him and she did have a point. They had no idea where this journey was leading them. This may very well be his last chance.

Stepping around the crate, he came up behind her and took hold of her upper arm.

When she glanced over her shoulder, he turned her to face him and pulled her into his embrace.
