Patty’s Free Read

Continuing the free read frenzy, here’s Patty Froese’s cover and blurb. Her story is a prequel to her novel Perfect on Paper. Her story is set in the 1940s which is an era I love.

Blurb:

Eunice is considered an old maid at the age of 26, but more than fate has kept her single. She’s in love with one of her father’s employees, a common laborer. Not only is Freddy beneath her socially, but he’s half-black, something unforgiveable in her father’s eyes. As WWII echoes like thunder in the distance, the pressures pushing them apart seem overwhelming. Is love enough to conquer society and family prejudice?

Maria’s Free Read

Maria's Free Read

Maria’s Free Read

Maria has been here before to chat about her Desert Breeze Publishing story, Kidnapped. Her free read is a prequel to her novel. Here’s the blurb and buy link:

BLURB:
On the outskirts of the ever present Alliance’s watchful eye, William Reynolds has served as mayor and preacher for the better part of a decade. Life is good, and he sees no reason to change anything. When a family fleeing the Alliance’s oppression comes his way he doesn’t hesitate to hide them. Reaching out to the people in need proves to be more dangerous than he could ever have anticipated, and once events are set in motion, there is no going back.

Hildie McQueen is hosting a flash fiction month on her blog and I’m there today with a 498 word story called “Holly” – the rules were romance and under 500 words and use the word Holly. Go see how I did, here.

FREE, FREE, FREE!!!

I have a free read available today from Desert Breeze Publishing- there are quite a few over there and I encourage you all to head over and download them- it will give you a chance to check out the writers’ styles and see if you like their work. Mine is called Christmas on St. Charles Avenue and takes place in New Orleans. I love that DBP gives us the option to do this each year (the free reads from prior years are available, too). This was my first year to do it and I love this little story – Here’s the blurb and cover: Isn’t the cover wonderful? The present means it’s a present to you- FREE! Merry Christmas from the Gambler and his family as well as the author.

Blurb:

New Orleans, Christmas Eve, 1947: Brothers, Dirk and Beaumont McSwain are both about to become fathers. Dirk’s wife has had a number of miscarriages and at thirty-six years old, is afraid this is her last chance for a healthy baby. Bo’s wife is pregnant for the first time. Both are due to give birth soon. The brothers arrange a surprise ride for their women in Papa Noel’s sleigh which is actually a horse drawn carriage with fake reindeer. The evening starts out merry and bright but before the night is over, they will need a Christmas miracle.

Friday Facts- November 30, 2012- Pangram

Do you know what a pangram is? “The quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog” is one.

Yep. It’s a sentence using every letter of an alphabet at least once. They are normally used to test equipment, or develop writing or keyboarding skills. We all know the above sentence but did you know there was a name for it?

For some fun longer pangrams check out this site.

The Next Big Thing

I’ve been tagged by Danica Avet in the next big thing and, as promised, I’ve listed my victims at the bottom of this post.
There are several questions I must answer before I get to the victims *rubs hands gleefully* so here goes.

1. What is your working title of your book?
Tequila Mockingbird

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?
My sons both had to read To Kill a Mockingbird in high school and both of them slurred the name every time they said it and what I heard was Tequila Mockingbird. I’ve wanted to write a story with that title ever since and the story finally came to me.

3. What genre does your book fall under?
Romantic suspense

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Jordi Molla for the hero, Kes Falco. (see this picture and imagine him with a pony tail- scroll down)

Sophia Bush for the heroine, Rachel Newsome. See here.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Kes Falco, pariah in his own town after taking the blame for his called-off wedding, disappears for two years but resurfaces when danger hits close to home.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I plan to send it to one of my current publishers

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It was my NaNoWriMo book for this year so 23 days.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Not that I’d ever compare myself to Dianna Love and Sherrilyn Kenyon but if you’ve read their BAD agency books, this novel is nothing like those but I hope it has some of the flavor of the adventure and danger that those stories have.

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
See #2 above- my sons.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
It starts off in Los Angeles and moves to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when a local lawyer is kidnapped in an effort by drug dealers to find out the real identity of an undercover agent named Mockingbird. I think it has a lot of elements that might appeal. A hot DEA agent, a lot of danger and some humor.

Here are my victims and I hope they’ll play along. Liv Rancourt, Mackenzie Crowne, Sandy Tilley, Kate Patrick, Joan Chandler.

Include the link of who tagged you and this explanation for the people you have tagged.

Guest Blogging Today

I’m visiting two blogs today. Lauren Clark is a writer who lives in the Mobile, Alabama area who writes some awesome southern stories and she was kind enough to invite me to come by – it’s an interview of the heroine in The Tainted Keitre, my New Orleans based story. Come by and say hello here.

The other spot is at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews. It’s part of their Sultry event that started in October. I share a ghostly encounter in that post. I’m also giving away a copy of Hot Pursuit– my romantic adventure published by Ellora’s Cave.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Happy Cyber Monday.

Happy Thanksgiving Week

I’m dealing with my grief over the death of my cat, edits and NaNoWriMo as well as the day job so I wanted to pop in briefly to wish everyone a wonderful week. If you eat too much turkey, take an extra nap for me. If you head out for black Friday, shop for me, too.

Gobble, gobble.
