An Open Letter to the Person Who Called Me Dishonorable
Dear Unnamed Author:
This letter is to respond to your completely unnecessary attack on me and my character. I am determined to ignore your venom but first, I must get this off my chest.
You asked me three times in separate communications to swap reviews of each other’s books. I normally don’t agree to do this but you were persistent and so I decided to go forward against my better judgment.
To tell the truth, your book turned me off completely. Even the blurb was almost impossible for me to get through. It was full of rage, abusive words and was utterly racist. But, I had agreed to read it, so read it I did.
When I finished, I was appalled and wondered even how a publisher would accept such vitriol. It took me a while to figure out how to write a review that I could post since I really hated the book. But, I had agreed to do it so I slanted the review to the best spin on the book I could. I wasn’t happy about putting it up, but I did. I immediately received an email from you to please put it up in another place. Which I did.
Months passed. I would check periodically to see if you had reciprocated on the review deal but you never did. The more I thought about what I posted as my review of your book, the more I regretted it. I get a lot of correspondence that people rely on my reviews when deciding to purchase and, the more time that went by, the more I knew I needed to remove that review. I wasn’t being true to myself.
You actually made it easy for me to remove it since you hadn’t lived up to your part of the bargain. Almost the minute I removed them, I suddenly heard from you- and you were almost done with my book and would post the review as soon as I put mine back up. Really? You think I am that naïve? You were merely wanting that review back and would say anything to get it.
Two more months pass and last night, I get an email from you. It was couched as, “put back up the review you did for me and I will give you a favorable review.” Not that you liked my book but that tit for tat, if I went back and reposted, I could get the benefit of the bargain I made four months ago.
When I declined- in the nicest possible way- without making any confrontational remarks, you came back immediately on the attack and accused me of being dishonorable and not living up to what I agreed to. Your angry words were cruel and unkind. Perhaps I should have expected such since your book was the same.
If you think about how things really went down, you’d see that I did exactly what I said I would. I honored my word. When you didn’t reciprocate, I removed the review that was actually eating at my conscience. So, ultimately, I followed my own heart and showed that I do have integrity by pulling the review.
This is one of the reasons I don’t agree to swap reviews. Your behavior was abominable and uncalled for. I am sticking to my guns from now on. I will never again agree to swap reviews with someone. I will review the books I choose.
Thank you for reminding me just how nasty some people can be. It’s a lesson I sometimes forget as I try to think the best of people until I am proven wrong. You definitely proved me wrong in this situation.
Jillian
** Edited to add**- I see you’ve now had your friend post a 3 star review of my book. Let’s talk about the definition of dishonorable. AND since you gave her my ARC, that’s more loss of integrity, isn’t it?

Tuesday Tales- Holiday Edition
This week on Tuesday Tales we are doing holiday stories. Some will last over 2-3 days but mine is only the one day since I have Wordless Wednesday set for tomorrow. It’s only 499 words, so check it out! Be sure to check out the other tales here.

Dasher and Dancer
“Dude, hurry up. Time’s a’wastin’,” Rudy said.
Slamming the locker door, the other man tossed his used towel into the hamper. “I’m ready.”
“It’s about time, Dasher. We’re going to be late.”
“Why do you insist on calling me Dasher?”
“You’re the only guy I know who can run the fifty yard dash that fast. The name fits.” Rudy clapped him on the back. “I want you to meet that girl I told you about. She’s just your type. All doe-eyed and brown hair.”
“Then let’s get to that vixen’s party.”
“You don’t like me calling you Dasher but you always call my girlfriend Vixen.”
“Like you said, it fits.” The man referred to as Dasher led the way out of the gym and to the parking lot.
Soon, they arrived at the party. The house was decorated with enough lights to illuminate a small Middle Eastern village.
“I’d hate to be the one to pay your gal’s January power bill.” Dasher rang the doorbell.
“Yeah. I’m glad it’s her nickel and not mine.”
Once they were inside, Dasher glanced around at the crowd. Spying a gorgeous girl near the punch bowl, he turned to Rudy. “Who’s that chick over there with the brown hair rocking around the Christmas tree?”
“Oh her?”
“Yeah, her.”
“We call her Dancer since she’s always boogieing. She’s the one I wanted you to meet.”
“Then lead on.” Dasher followed Rudy across the room to the table laden with cookies, fudge and other sweets. There was one plate of vegetables arranged in the shape of a wreath with lettuce in a circle with tiny tomatoes and kale arranged as holly and another with broccoli, carrots and cauliflower shaped like a Christmas tree.
Glad to see at least one or two healthy foods since he had to keep in running shape, Dasher decided to ignore the snacks for the moment and concentrate on the girl. She really was pretty.
Rudy tapped her on the shoulder. When she turned to face them, Dasher sucked in a breath. Up close, she was absolutely stunning. And doe-eyed for sure. He held out his hand as Rudy introduced them.
When she clasped his, hers was so cool and smooth it was all he could do not to put it to his lips and kiss it as if he were from another age or another country.
“Since you’re called Dancer, would you like to dance with me?” Dasher asked.
“I’d love to.”
He was glad the band played a slow song next. That way, he didn’t have to let go of her hand.
Leading her to the area cleared for dancing, Dasher spun Dancer around the room and stared into those beautiful eyes.
As the song, Silver Bells, continued, Dancer hummed along. They moved in unison. Dasher realized she was the perfect Christmas gift for him.
He liked to dash, she liked to dance and they fit together perfectly. Both clearly loved Christmas music. They were meant to be.

Friday Facts- December 18, 2015- The Christmas Song
This song was written by Bob Wells and Mel Torme in 1945. It’s the most performed Christmas song and was actually written on a super-hot summer day. Mel Torme said he saw a note pad on Bob Wells’ piano with the four phrase, “chestnuts roasting” “Jack Frost nipping” “yuletide carols” and “folks dressed as Eskimos” – Wells told him he was trying to keep cool in the heat by thinking of cold things. He wasn’t working on a song.
When Mel saw the words, they started working on a song and had it done in 40 minutes. Mel wrote the tune and they both did the lyrics. Not bad for less than an hour’s work, right?
Nat King Cole recorded it first (1946) but I like Bing’s version the best since he refers to the writers at the beginning. I love that.
