Guest Blogging

I’m guest blogging today with my lovely friend and Desert Breeze Publishing colleague, Regina Andrews. Come by and see what my favorite guilty pleasure might be.

It’s also my regular day here: Four Foxes One Hound. Come by and watch me get in trouble as I tear down a favorite holiday.

Bright, Shiny and New!

So, I started a new novel last week. I wrote on Monday night and Tuesday night and was rocking right along. Wednesday, I was brain dead from court, so I didn’t write. Thursday, I went to dinner with a friend. We met at 5:00 and left the restaurant at 9:40 (not crowded and it was Panera so we didn’t lose anyone a tip). When I got home, there was a desperate need for down time so no writing. Friday, I decided to look at an old story to see if it could be made into something worthwhile. I got all tangled up in that crap and spent over six hours working on that story over the next two days (it’s still crap, by the way).

By now, we’re up to Sunday. I opened Chapter Two of the new novel and read over the 157 words so far in it. Decided to go run an errand and then to my folks’ for Sunday dinner. My dad and I got into a discussion about the time Jesse James robbed the federal paymaster near the house where my great-grandfather grew up. Well, you can probably guess what happened on my way home.

Yep, I have a new story. One with my great-grandparents as the main characters (but Jesse James isn’t in it- so far anyway). It’s set in the fall because one of my publishers has a call for fall stories. I wrote like a demon and therefore, never got back to the new novel. But, I’m on fire with this story. I’ll get back to that novel sometime. Really, I will.

Friday Facts- May 4, 2012- Super Moon

Nope, I’m not talking about a caped crussader or a man in tights. I’m talking about the full moon for this weekend. It’s called a Super Moon because it is as close as the orbiter gets to Earth right now and that phenomenon doesn’t happen a lot during a full moon stage and may not happen again for 100 years. Exceptionally high tides are predicted and maybe even some flooding. The moon will look huge when it rises and folks in some areas will be able to see what looks like a ring of fire around the edges.

So, head outside, dance in the lightness of the moon and maybe, just maybe, meet the man that lives there since he should be pretty close to the Earth. I bet he’s drop dead gorgeous and I say that since there is no oxygen there.

Liv Rancourt Made Me Do It!

The always fantastic Liv Rancourt had a cool blog post earlier this week that she put up in answer to a game posted by one of her friends, Shay Fabbro. The deal is to list ten things you love that start with a particular letter. Then, if the commenters choose to play, the blogger assigns a random letter to the commenter for them to blog about. Liv assigned me the letter “I” and after moaning and whining to her about it, I decided I couldn’t let that pesky letter kick my rear, so here we go with the Letter “I” – oh, and by the way, if you want to play on your own blog, let me know and I’ll assign you a letter.

1. Inuit– This word is important to me at the moment because the heroine in my current WIP is an American with a Russian and Inuit background.

2. independence– This one is two-fold. I love being an independent woman who can make my own way in the world and I also have a great respect for our forebears who fought for the independence of this country (without the aid of Madame Guillotine, thank you).

3. Ignorance– Yes, I embrace all the things I’m ignorant about such as the Chinese language, the reason men love cars so much and NASCAR- really? What’s the fascination with watching a bunch of folks turn left for hours?

4. Indian– My grandmother’s grandmother was a Cherokee Indian. I think it’s cool that I have a bit of that blood in me.

5. Italy– Don’t need to say much there, do I? You all know I adore Italy and all things Italian back to pre-history days even.

6. Iron- Nope. I don’t love irons or ironing. UGH. But, I appreciate the vitamin iron since I have anemia and ferrous sulfate is my friend.

7. Idiot- Sometimes, I feel like an idiot. I try to keep that a secret but there you are. Confession of the day.

8. Intense– Yep, that’s me. Check out the picture dictionary. That’s my photo on that definition. I don’t do anything by halves. It’s a disease.

9. Industrious– I work like a demon. Even when I’m having fun, I’m working, working, working (see #8 above).

10. Imaginative– How many people do you know who think the cab driver or the shuttle driver or the tour guide (pick your stranger here) is going to drive off into a deserted area and kill them? Raises hand- yep, that’s me. Always.

So, if you want to play, let me know. I promise to pop by and see what you do with your assigned letter.

Jiminy Cricket! I’ve Been Shut Out of My Own Blog

Soooo, I was going to write this awesome blog post and dadgum WordPress was hating all over me and wouldn’t let me in. Heck, who knows if this will show up?  Anyhoo, I forgot what I was gonna say. Something Earth-shattering, I’m sure.  Leaving my office now to forage for food. I hope WordPress falls in love with me again while I’m out.  Probably dreaming there.

Have a great Monday.

Friday Facts- April 27, 2012- Ornithogalum Pyrenaicum

http://desertbreezepublishing.blogspot.com/ Today in the spotlight, I’m sharing an excerpt. Pop in and say hi sometime before Sunday and be entered for a chance to win a copy of the book as well as a mousepad with the cover on it.

Okay, on to the Friday Fact- ornithogalum pyrenaicum is a form of asparagus. This week on Twitter, Liv Rancourt, Rayne Hall, GRbliss and I got in a discussion about Klout. Rayne was discussing this term ornithogalum pyrenaicum as it is something she read on Klout and we got curious as to what the heck it really is. Liv and I thought it was something to do with birds as orinthology is the study of birds. Alas, we were wrong. Liv decided to google it and thus we learned it’s a type of asparagus. It used to grow abundantly in Bath, England and so is also known as Bath asparagus. Other names are Pyrennes Star of Bethlehem and Prussian asparagus.

So, next time you’re at Mellow Mushroom and order the asparagus pizza, razzle dazzle your waitress with this word.

NEW COVER LOVE!!!

My cover for The Season of the Witch is awesomely perfect for the story. I love the green eyes, the murky crystal ball and the font for the title and my name. I also love, love that the cover artist, Dawne Dominique, fit in the name of the store over the shop door. She nailed my vision of this shop and the town. I think she’s an amazing cover artist.

This story comes out in June, 2012.

And remember, I’m still in the spotlight at Desert Breeze. I’m talking about the inspiration for the hero of The Gambler in the post today.
